DONOVAN vs GRIMM DEBATE

Written on Jun, 12 2018 00:40
The contentious live debate in one of the hottest races this election season took place at WABC Radio Studios Stage 17 in NYC and was moderated by WABC Radio Host and Political Editor Rita Cosby. Donovan, a longtime political fixture in Staten Island, finds himself facing in a tough fight against Michael Grimm, who is 10 points ahead in the only public poll by NY1.

There were MANY intense verbal fireworks on both sides this afternoon during the FIRST GOP Primary Debate between Congressman Dan Donovan and his spirited challenger, former Rep. Michael Grimm, both vying for the only currently held Republican Congressional seat in NYC. The 11th Congressional District covers Staten Island and parts of Brooklyn. Donovan refers to Grimm as the "Convict Congressman," because he served time for tax fraud, while Grimm calls Donovan a liar.

The one hour debate focused on many hot topics such as Grimm’s felony conviction and prison time, varying accounts of a discussion of a possible Presidential pardon for Grimm, Trump’s recent endorsement of Donovan, Grimm’s lead in several recent polls, as well as the highly publicized case of the NY undocumented pizza delivery man detained by ICE. They also blasted Governor Cuomo, Mayor DeBlasio and discussed Sanctuary Cities, and they talked about Trump’s upcoming meeting with the North Korean dictator tonight, the Mueller probe, New Yorker James Comey and more.

Below is a guide of some of the key debate highlights separated by the three segments, totaling app 50 minutes.
